That will never happen. If a person decided to stop gambling because he realized that he already has a gambling addiction and it is progressing he will stay away from gambling and not play even with fake money because such a game is not able to resist addiction and most likely even aggravates the already deplorable situation.
I know a guy who lost a lot of money because of his gambling addiction and now he completely ignores it without even playing cards with his friends.
Decides or understands that gambling addiction is progressing? I dont believe that gambling addiction can be stopped just by loosing interest to gambling. Persons habits or objects of interest might, new hobbies appear - that can help. But I cant believe that person got addicted to gambling and suddenly become not addicted. Either he was never addicted at all, but just lost a huge amount of money, either he will break and get back.
I think alternative money will not help to stop addiction. It does not matter what gambler uses to place bets, because he seeks emotions from risking and winning with something he could lost and has value.
