For someone like you, it's fine to look back but for someone that isn't like you then they should avoid looking back as that can only make them regret and this can badly affect them. This helps those people who are not like you. They will feel discouraged about their past mistakes but they will try to be strong and be more motivated to change their habit because they now know that there's still more opportunities that can come and they can still recover what they have lose on the past or possibly earn more than that.
