Surprisingly they still retain most of the players that proved in the previous season the squad was unable to compete and still lags behind the two La Liga giants. Almost every season they do that, indeed with that squad they can still occupy the top three positions in the standings. But don't they have the will to be in a better position by seeking change?
That is something normal, because if Atletico can win the La Liga title then at the same time Real Madrid and Barcelona are not in good form. So, when Real Madrid and Barcelona are in good shape then no matter how good the Atletico squad is, in the end, Athletico won't be able to win the title. Also, as long as Atletico are still coached by Diego Simeone don't expect any big changes to be made, but as long as Diego Simeone is still there for Atletico then it is also a guarantee that they will stay in the top four just to be a shadow of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Actually when they can compete and can give more performance there is something that can be expected from them to be able to destroy the dominance of Barcelona and Madrid and actually a few seasons ago they were able to change that and make the competition into the top 3, but after they won they slowly left and let alone a chance to destroy the 2 clubs above it because indeed they even stumbled in this season which made this like them after the champions returned to their factory settings and like clubs
