That was the time when there's no clear chance that he will fight Crawford. But on the other hand, Crawford also like to face Charlo at 154 lbs. If they have the same target and if these Crawford vs Spence won't be organized officially, I wonder who will face Jermell Charlo.
It's just a waste moment for me that we will not see this big fight if ever things not worked out properly. I don't see any reason why this fight should not happened. Spence even mentioned before that there's no thing on their way for this fight not to happened. Crawford on the other hand has also the same view that his fight against Spence will really happened.
But even both boxers are positive that their fight will soon happened, we still don't see any good news about the progress of this fight.
Spence should stop making excuses, he should focus on his fight with Crawford and make sure it will happen his year. There's no reason that they will move when one of them cannot be an undisputed champion, I hope they will not be greedy, it's time to give the fans what we are hoping to see.
From what I read, Spence says that he doesn't need Crawford because he has cemented his legacy. He has 3 belts, has better resume that Crawford, can generated huge PPV numbers and other reasons (excuses?).
Nevertheless, I would agree that to really put your name in the 147 lbs, he needs to get all the belts under his waist and call him the best. Otherwise, it will be a big question mark on his career, a big what if scenario if he decided not to chase Crawford anymore.
Spence will fight Jermell
if the money is right. I even doubt Spence fights his close friend unless there's a fallout. While both Spence and Jermell are promoted by PBC, it is Crawford that has an easier route to fight Jermell as a WBO welterweight champ privilege unless the undisputed champ vacates his WBO belt which is very possible too.
As for Spence's legacy. He only got 3 belts in a single division. He is not even the lineal and Ring champ. That resume is not enough to enter the Hall of Fame. Crawford's resume is the one that has HoF credentials being a 3 division champion, 2 division lineal and Ring champion, and former undisputed champion.
Will Spence got the balls to fight Crawford for a chance to become an undisputed champ? Or will Spence continue to block Crawford's chance to become the first ever 2 division undisputed champion in this 4-belt era? And there's Spence's friend the undisputed champion Jermell Charlo already saying in public that he will not give Crawford a shot at his undisputed belts. It should not be that hard to see who's the guy clearly chasing a legendary status in boxing.
