This is not exactly the best example. Apparently, the ancient Romans only allowed one day a week for gambling because they thought women were less capable of it.
The point I want to make here is that there is nothing unique about the fact that women gamble. And as far as I have seen, gambling isn't simply an affliction of men. It is true that more men gamble than women, at least in the US. But when it comes to online betting, for example, the gap between male and female bettors seems to be narrowing substantially.
