all investments have risks including buying alcoins, if you want to buy alcoins it's better to choose alcoins that can be durable such as eth coin and bnb coin can be invested in the long term I also invest these two coins and I already make a profit if I sell it, but I still survive because I believe in the future these two coins will rise in price.
I agree although many people tends to look for an opportunity from buying in shit altcoins since they can give you 3x ROI in a few days so a lot of them choose that in reality in long term both altcoins that you mention are always the winner if take a look from their value. I believe that crypto will get another ATH in the coming years in preparation for that we can buy our favorite alt for long term holding.
There are people who call themselves investors but play like a gambling type of investment strategy, taking a short-term shit coin and hoping that hypes will allow them to take a big bunch of profits. Otherwise, losing side will lead them to lose everything that they've got after the shit project developers runaway with their hard earned money.
