Why we have to leave gambling at the end where we take it as for fun only ! I think there is nothing wrong when we take its only for entertainment purpose except when a person going to addicted on it . I think the stealing of happiness and health that you speak of will only happen to gamblers who cannot control themselves.
Addiction usually comes from excessive cravings. When gamblers get overly greedy they tend to lose their wealth. There will be no negative consequences for those who gamble in the hope of entertainment.

In many cases gambling addiction comes from losing. Gambler deserve that when they lose large amount of money, they have to gamble to recover their lost assets. Because that lost money is not very easy to earn out side of gambling.
Without a doubt that greed is one of the main components which explains why gambling addiction is actually a thing, however another very important reason is the laziness of people.

We know that obtaining money can be quite challenging for the majority of the people, but those people see in gambling not only a way of earning money but they see it as a way to do so without any effort and this makes gambling even more attractive in their eyes, however they are completely wrong because over several centuries there have been studies done about this and it is basically impossible to beat the house no matter how lucky we may believe we are.
Absolutely correct reasoning that laziness is the main aspect in the issue of gambling addiction.  Of course, who would refuse to just press a button and get paid for it.  Easier earnings for a lazy person can not even imagine.  And in my head, of course, the thought of the possibility of such an easy income is spinning all the time.
And of course everyone understands that it is possible to lose, but hope still makes a person play.

And of course, the entire world history of the development of gambling is built on such principles.
