In many cases gambling addiction comes from losing. Gambler deserve that when they lose large amount of money, they have to gamble to recover their lost assets. Because that lost money is not very easy to earn out side of gambling.
You are right because after losing it makes him gamble again and again hoping to win back the lost money. Here self control matters a lot. However I think it all starts with the winnings, when a gambler wins his first gamble from a site he becomes a bit of an addict and then dares to invest large sums of money only to find himself losing.  So I think it is very important to keep our self control here, and if gambling can be take as entertainment purpose then I think this problem will not exist.

I believe that is chasing losses and not gambling addiction.  As far as I know, an addicted gambler does not care about the result, all he wants is to gamble and gamble until their 24 hours is consumed sitting in front of a gambling machine.  As the description says, gambling disorder is an uncontrollable urge to gamble, it doesn't say chasing losses elsewhere.
Then let me ask you this.

If those addicted person do only play and wont be minding about losses or winnings then what is the main intent on why a certain person continue to play? Is it just for fun? Impossible.
They would be always chasing up to win and whenever they do lose then they would be basically be thinking about breaking even those losses at least and as long they do
have money into their pockets then for sure they would really be still continue to play no matter what.Addiction does have it all when it comes to those kind of intents which
is the cause of such actions.
