Even though what you have said is true and he got scammed and should face his money is gone, I dont think it is necessary to be so harsh to him.
He was going through the 5 stages of grief while dealing with his situation (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance), probably the bargaining stage, there is a chance he is from a country where 500$ is quite a high quantity of money, If something similar happened to me I would probably do the same out dispair...
On one hand, what you said is completely true. On the other hand, @coolcoinz's words might hurt, but are necessary to help that particular victim move on since some of these victims get stuck in the depression stage without moving to the acceptance stage for way too long.
Personally, I've observed some victims who kept pleading desperately for months. Tough talk is necessary sometimes.
