Pakistan just performed the way they always perform - unpredictably. This is a team that managed to beat the much hyped Indians. They almost went down against Afghanistan, and only the last ball sixes from Naseem Shah saved them. But then they performed poorly against the Lankans when it mattered the most. Their vulnerabilities are out in the open. First of all, they lack an experienced spinner. And in sub-continental conditions, you can't win matches without quality spin bowlers. And then, Shaheeh Shah Afridi's absence was felt in almost every match.
You forgot the out-of-form Babar Azam in the Asia cup. Then the lack of energy & coordination to stop and catch the ball on the field. Worst performance by the middle order and unable to form any partnership. They did what was not expected of a team who got an opportunity to play in the finals. After India now Srilanka won the Asia cup for the maximum time. India has won the title 7 times and Srilanka has won 6 times.
Yeah.. Pakistan managed to win the trophy only twice out of 14 attempts. And it is not surprising. In order to win a major tournament, you need to perform consistently. I know that Pakistanis are very dependent on Babar Azam on the batting department (and Shaheen for bowling). His lack of form was a major reason for this debacle. Anyway, they should look in to the positives. They managed to win a match against India, and that too in a comprehensive manner. Reaching the final is by no means a small achievement.
