Marco Reus is deeply concerned about the injury he picked up at the Revierderby last week as the forward picked up an ankle injury. The Dortmund player was seen crying as he left the pitch, Reus was very worried about not being able to feature at the Qatar World Cup with Germany.
Reus has experience missing Germany's successful World Cup campaign in 2014 with another ankle injury, but Borussia Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl is optimistic that he will be fit for the tournament in Qatar.
Marco Reus is really unlucky. World Cup is starting soon & he caught a serious injury. Again, before the main international torunament. Marco Reus is one of the most unlucky footballers of all time. An absolute World Class player with a terrible injury record.
❌ 2012: Injured in the last warm-up match, missed the EUROs
❌ 2014: Injured, missed the World Cup
❌ 2016: Injured in the last warm-up match, missed the EUROs
✅ 2018: Present
❌ 2021: Missed the EUROs
❓ 2022: Injured 2 months before the World Cup
His resilience against injuries has always been one of Marco Reus' biggest weaknesses. Now some might say the he is just unlucky and that is certainly true to a degree, but he has been very prone to injuries all the time as well. It is not like it's coincidence only all the time that the same players get injured over and over again. Even though they now said that this injury is not going to threaten his participation in the World Cup, the fact of the matter still is that he is getting out of the weekly routine for now and needs to regain trust in his joint. That is also an important factor when you want to reach your highest possible level in normal games but especially for an important tournament like the World Cup. As a coach you usually want your players to be at 110% and I am not sure Reus can achieve that once he is able to start another of those countless comebacks during his career.
Anyway the game against Hungary was shockingly bad. Germany recently claimed to be a favorite for the title as well, but that didn't really seem to be the case against Hungary.
