I know this may seem like a silly question, but I'm still not sure what the merge was. Could someone please explain this to me?
The simple answer is since ethereum was facing problem with the inflation caused by the hardcap supply is not yet determine and ethereum developers have been taking the decision to change the old consensus that used by old ethereum from proof of work which make miners can inflating the supply of ethereum into the POS which is making the supply of ethereum fixed and miners will not able inflating ethereum supply anymore.
