Don't use a SATA splitter, especially with SSDs. A single SSD will saturate SATA3 bandwidth, connecting 4 to 1 port is insane.
It might be ok with slow HDDs where you don't care about speed.

Better to use a PCIe SATA controller card as others have suggested.
