satoshi himself have created and posted the design of the second logo. Can't we call it as official 
though we aren't using that one at all. Haven't seen any comment from satoshi in bitboy's thread too.In my opinion, the 2nd version looks better (really, a nice logo) and I just got used to this logo already, seeing it on this forum. But I didn't know that this logo was created by Satoshi, which I think adds value to this image, making it unique in its kind, because it looks like we will never see images created by Nakamoto again.
You are right though I didn't like the design much to be honest. However, I don't think anyone would be using this as bitcoin logo. Bitboy's logo has got the place for Unofficial Logo of Official Bitcoin
