There is a more epic coach on the market - Zidane. It's Mr. "Get the Champions League as many times as I want". I think one way or another they will be able to persuade him to lead the City. In addition, Mourinho seems to be regaining the status of "special one" and if he spends this season with Roma again successfully, then they can invite him. I'm sure the sheiks won't wait forever and give Guardiola endless chances.
Zidane is surely an amazing coach. He doesn't only have great achievements in UCL and La Liga, but he is a charismatic person and a good motivator as well. Also, he is a legend who becomes an inspiration for all modern football players nowadays. No one doubts his ability to make proper tactics, Zidane proved it when he and Real Madrid defeated many top teams in the world. He is a perfect coach for a big club like Man City. However, the problem is, Zidane is a typical coach who is very difficult to negotiate. He refused Man United and PSG offers, so it is possible that he may refuse Man City offer as well. But it deserves to try make an offer to him. 
About Mourinho, I don't think he is better than Pep Guardiola. I doubt if Man City owner (Sheikh Mansour) wants to hire him. He is a typical coach with an eccentric style, which doesn't fit with the characteristic of Man City squad.
