Being in Group E with Spain and Japan (I exclude Costa Rica) was disastrous for Germany. Previously, many people predicted that Germany would qualify for the last 16 as group winners, but in reality, Germany failed to progress to the next round due to being unable to compete with Japan and Spain. Germany failure at the 2022 World Cup was due to losing 3 points to Japan in the first game, and what hit Germany the most was their elimination due to the difference in the number of goals from Spain.

Germany's failure to penetrate into the round of 16 was due to Spain's defeat by Japan, if Spain drew with Japan, Spain and Germany would qualify for the next round.
