Everyone should choose his favorite wallet based on his knowledge and skills. But if I have to make a ranking then I prefer open source software. I believe that Electrum is among the best software wallets available while if I look at hardware wallets then my preference falls on Coldcard or Bitbox02
If we are a newbie then we should also go for the wallets which are newbie friendly so that there are no problems that will be faced later on because I know that there are so many newbies who are too boastful. They think they can handle harder things when their experience on cryptos is still small. Open source wallets are good to use because they are clean and free from back doors. One example of open source wallet is electrum.
Exodus is popular but it's said that it wasn't totally open source. When it comes to hardware wallet I think I will go with the op's recommendations. I am not sure if I heard bitbox before but I believe that coldcard is a new one. They may need more exposure and review first before the public gains trust on them.
