First ask yourself on what criteria and basis can you give your trust to an exchange. If it is on the criteria of how long they have been in the market, remember that FTX was in the market as a good exchange for a while until it suddenly flipped and has become one of the most terrible exchanges in history of crypto. If it is on the basis of a credible looking CEO, SBF also did a good job deceiving the public with a credible face. Trust is difficult to give especially when you become the one to loose it all if the trust is broken. I say you trust only yourself and self custody.
