I guess that a lot of us were expecting to see messi vs CR7 at the finals. It would be amazing and story would be written around it.
This would have been unlikely, unlikely based on the part of Portugal as it actually turned out but, a world cup final between Messi and Ronaldo would have been epic. Two GOATs, locked in an epic of having a chance to end there national careers with a trophy that have eluded both and most of all, one gets to deprive the other of the opportunity, it would have been sweet savory for history.
Still okay, Messi got it and that's enough for them no or should should say, Messi. Can't say Ronaldo is exactly happy for him, lol.

The France vs Argentina World Cup was already epic, how much more if it's Portugal vs Argentina, right? I'd say epic will be an understatement because that is the world's dream match-up especially for the avid football fans out there. Well, what we saw in the recent Qatar World Cup is already a treat because the match-up was so intense and for me, it's already the best World Cup.

Sadly, both Messi and CR7 might not be around anymore in the next world cup. Some are already saying that the latter's last dance will in the Euro '24.
Really? With how he performed this World Cup he's far from being weakened due to aging. Messi is still pretty much powerful and a good football player at that so if you could give me an explanation as to why people infer that he's gonna retire it would be great. The same can be said for CR7. Is he retiring? Is his loss really that devastating that he'd rather just quit football instead of trying for the next world cup? I think these two GOATS are still very much strong in their own right to quit playing. Maybe these are just speculations.

As what I've said, I used the word might. Which also means that it's not yet guaranteed or sure that Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo will retire in the speculated years.

I don't know if they will indeed retire soon but we all know that CR7 is already old enough to relax and enjoy what he achieved in his professional career as he will turn 38 years old this coming February 2023, that's why it's been said that Euro '24 will be his final dance. I mean, isn't it reasonable? CR7 is almost 42 years old at that time if he will still play in the next World Cup which is in 2026. For Messi, maybe he will be playing at the next World Cup but that's not yet definite as of now.
