I don't know about 2024. But as far as 2022-23 is concerned, he remains as the best Portuguese player (you can disagree with me).
Indeed. Ronaldo is still the best Portugal player, no other players who have the role as well as Ronaldo in the squad. Even he sits on the bench, he still contributes to give the motivation to the players on the field. He is a captain and he is the role model of Portugal national team.
I am not denying the fact that Portugal has a bunch of younger guys looking forward to replace Ronaldo in the squad, including João Félix, Rafael Leão and Bernardo Silva. But my take is that none of these players have the ability to single-handedly win the matches for their team.
Ronaldo plays as a CF, his replacement should be Felix, Goncalo Ramos, and Andre Silva. Rafael Leao, Bruno Fernandes, and Bernardo Silva won't look forward to replace Ronaldo because they are in different position. They are young players but they don't have enough the mentality as the champion without Ronaldo.
