Maybe Dortmund aren't in a very favourable condition in the league now. But even if they were at the second position in the standings they wouldn't still have been able to compete with Bayern Munich at the same level. We all know about their priorities rather than a Bundesliga championship. We have already talked about this many times here I guess. As long as the board doesn't completely change I won't be expecting any big change in Dortmund's business model. They will just continue to prioritize making a lot of profit in selling young players.
Bellingham is about to be another candidate for that by next summer you know. He will be a Real Madrid player most probably.
Dortmund was a good team but currently their performance is going bad. After Halland's departure, they could not add any player to fill Halland's place in their team. In view of which, Dortmund have some problems in attack.
Dortmund are not ready to invest in their team. The keep selling quality players without making provision to replace them with new players. The departure of Haaland isn't supposed to affect the team if they had plans to compete for the Bundles league title but it is obvious they are out for business where the sell players to get money.
