Maybe people got confused because the information does not really benefit anyone. If you mine to a pool it will not increase your payment at all if you have hit a block. You will most likely be confused/sad that you did not mine sole  If you however mine solo, you will obviously know from the pool that you hit the block. I have read some threads were people did not understand why they didnt get the reward even if they see "found block: 1". But obviously the solution was the mining pool.
