That seems a bit insane for mining right?  This is the sort of ridiculousness that makes me think not a whole lot of thought went behind the process.  Obviously you don't need this sort of network connection for pretty much anything, and if you do need it to mine this coin that would be a massive red flag for me.  I think even if you did want to invest and support this coin, you would be better off mining something else and then using that to purchase these coins outright, yes?  Anyway, good luck to those getting involved.  I haven't looked at it enough to know the details since it didn't pass my sniff test.
