The thing is that some users get a good kick/fun out of it. They just like tech in general and love to tinker with the hardware, which makes them occupied in a way, more involved, and feel like they're under control. I was like that a few years back, always been with hardware, especially when it comes to GPUs and CPUs, but now I'm just lazy.
