If someone tags you for something you believe is false, prove them wrong,
Sometimes it's better if the accuser brings enough proofs and then go for tag or anything they want. If anyone needs to prove anything then it should be the accuser not the person who was accused. I don't want to name anyone which will definitely bring the conversation back which I don't want it to be in discussion again.

The campaign manager accused his client was told that they should not hire him (the campaign manger) and it was told by another forum member.

In this case if you, as the another user (the one was accused) indeed did not do that then how would you prove that you did not do anything. But if you indeed did then here are no point for you to prove anything but since there will be a pressure to cover it, you can just act that you do not know anything. So what the community will do then? My guess is their history will be taken in consideration.

In OPs case since he/she does not have a history to judge, it's easy to miss-understand him perhaps.
