I think maybe you just need time to enjoy what game is your favorite. and when you are starting to feel comfortable in the game, hold on until you find that lucky gap and occasionally increase the bet when you feel confident that in that round you will win. don't rush into betting and always be consistent, that is the key.
That's what I have done by just enjoying the games that I often choose and I usually immediately choose a slot game from one or two game providers and play it as usual. I rarely increase bets because I'm not so lucky in every game so I usually choose small bets and sometimes I use other features 
if indeed you want to increase your VIP rank it is better to try other bets besides slots.
for me Slots eat up your budget faster. because in slot games there is no strategy whatsoever, just pressing the play button.
but if you're lucky, slot games win faster, but usually lose faster too.
