at a certain point, to rank the VIP level, you need to play really big amount of money (likewise to become platinum1) .
I think that is pretty useless become focused on that strategy because even if you reach the level, the amount you have wagered (and much probably lost) is definitely bigger of any advantage you can get from VIP level reached

Big amount of money will only give you fastest way to rank up, basically you can do it with small amount every bet but you need to do it frequently.
I can say this because it is my own experience, I'm now Platinum IV, but my average amount per bet is no more than $10.
I mostly played original stake games (never bet more than $5 per bet), my average big bet is when I play slot game by using the buy in feature which usually cost me $10-$20 per buy spin.
However I did not play slots more than the origal games, so I can say that 80% of my wagering number comes from the original games with small bets.
