Technically speaking, he can't loose everything on his btc investment. He can only loose it all if he starts futures/options or altcoins trading with his initial investment. Bitcoin can't just go to zero to make his 50$ worth null, 
Also, @OP you must immediately transfer your investment to a safe self-custodial wallet if you are not going to trade with it.
