Software wallets, such as Exodus or Electrum, can be more convenient to use but may not offer the same level of security as hardware wallets.
Electrum (if it is used as a cold wallet) can provide same security as a hardware wallet.
Exodus is a close-source wallet and there is no way to know how the keys are generated and whether the keys are stored on their server or not. You should avoid Exodus.
