I used to keep my merits for non-legendaries.
Now only rarely do I find a merit worthy post by non-legends; let alone beginners. What has happened to the WO? Do I sound like a fading boomer if I suspect only the "old guard" is keeping this place interesting?

The truth is, Legendary WO members have been here, and they are only keeping it interesting.
Everyday newbie accounts spawn up, and they post tweets to get some easy merits until they get at least Full Member rank to apply for a signature campaign. Once they get ranked up, They do not return to WO until they feel they need more merits to reach the next rank. If Signature Campaign disappears from this forum, you rarely see newbies' posts in the WO thread. So, You will see new people coming and disappearing every few days. So yeah, the answer to your question is Yes. So, feel free to spend your merits on Legendaries Post
