Bitcoin mining, which is necessary to validate transactions on the blockchain, requires significant amounts of energy. Critics argue that the energy consumption associated with Bitcoin is unsustainable and contributes to climate change.
what do you think?
Those critics are incorrect, Bitcoin mining. if not now will become sustainable.
OP you are asking two different questions-
Is Bitcoin mining environmentally friendly ?No! but everything humans do contributes to damaging the environment, over consuming,
increasing population, commercialism, driving, farming for example all contribute to whats happening.
Critics argue that the energy consumption associated with Bitcoin is unsustainable and contributes to climate change.
what do you think?I made a post about this before which I cant find but anyway I'll type it again.
Bitcoins direct competitor we'll say is FIAT cash and coins, think of
the creation of raw materials
transportation of them to be processed
the processing if them itself
more transportation to be printed and minted
the printing and minting process
the transportation to central banks
the distribution to local banks
the maintenance of used notes and coins and the energy involved in recycling/disposing
the security involved in every process
I have never heard any critics saying how unsustainable that process is but it clear
which is nore sustainable.
