I think he made the right choice
If Real madrid are targeting to win the Champions league,  then it will make things easy for Barcelona to win laliga  because it will be impossible for Real Madrid to win the champions league and laliga.  The champions league is not easy one to get,  their is no how they can give the best performance in laliga.
The problem now is not about focusing on the league alone as the competitors are also good and are currently in form too with the same goal of winning the championship, so Real Madrid should concentrate more on the champions league. It is not really about Real Madrid still targeting the league but is already a lost course the point Barcelona is leading them with is already giving them a hedge against Real Madrid in La Liga.
the chances of even Madrid winning still having serious doubt about it.
