I know you know that. I just don't think you appreciate the implications. That the EC is in place affects everything from the candidates chosen to the campaigns and how people turn out. One of the (many) factors thought to be a factor in Hillary's defeat is that she basically said "fuck it" to campaigning in several states (her being a horrible candidate should not be ignored, of course, let alone fucking over Bernie). Get rid of the EC and it's a totally different election. The votes don't transfer over, however much you'd like that to be the case.

Hey, you were the one glibly dismissing (and insulting) the longstanding institution of the EC.
Ok fair enough. My original post was merely to dispute oom’s statement that at least 50% of voters in USA get the government they voted for, which, due to the weird rules of the EC, is not always the case.
I personally think it’s absurd one can lose the popular vote but still win the election.
So yes, I will “glibly dismiss the
antiquated longstanding institution of the EC” because imo, it’s bullshit.
