He has not been replaced with a robot, if that would have happened it would have already been on all news that we have now autonomous delivery trucks all over. What really happened is that an AI system started planing his work and he couldn't weasel his way out of it:
Smood had used such software since he started working there in 2020, Rodrigues told DW. But at a certain point, "the robot" became entirely responsible for planning his working day, according to him, and appealing to human managers was no longer possible.
He saw "the robot" pitting employees against each other. The quickest, best-performing drivers got more deliveries, he claimed. Ultimately, he said, he found himself getting less work.
What a surprise, the ones doing deliveries in less time got more jobs than others, what company would keep people that take twice as much time to drive trucks around town than others and pay them the same as the other guys? Would you pay the same a guy that washes your car in 3 hours as one who does the same job in 15 minutes?
AI will change the job market but this is not going to be good for commoners like us! In order to reduce costs, companies will implement multiple automations wherever possible. This will lead to millions of job cuts in future. With economy already struggling, AI will add to it.
Thousands of job types have disappeared in the last century, and millions would have gone unemployed, yet we still manage to produce enough jobs so that women could work too, we have the largest employment levels in history and still millions of openings.
Yet surprisingly the commoners live way better than last century.
