You are absolutely right that money is always the most common reason for committing crimes around the world. Actually we can not assume that money is the root of all evil for granted.
Money is just an inanimate object and was created to be a tool for exchange that has value, so we cannot blame it and call it the source of all existing evil.
But the term "money is the source of all evil" exists because humans themselves cannot take advantage of the function of money properly.
Everything comes from irrational and excessive thinking about human love and madness for money that causes or creates a problem. We even often hear that someone is willing to fight and kill each other just to get money.
