These methods involve using hardware wallets, QR codes, or mesh networks to facilitate transactions offline, but they still require an internet connection at some point to broadcast the transaction to the Bitcoin network for verification and confirmation. Or what's your take on this.?

Yup, still needs the internet definitely. Bitcoin, as it is has been made solely for the purpose of it being used on the internet in order to avoid several factors that would compromise the privacy of the users. It has also been made that way to make it convenient to make transactions all over the world without much inconvenience despite it not having complete anonymity. If offline transactions would really be needed, it'd be better to just use fiat since most of the time, people who make deals offline are often near if not face to face with eachother.
