I have no idea how I managed to overlook this when I tested the Whirlwind website for
my review.
There is no mention of this in the
changelog so was that feature always there from day one since the Whirlwind website went live? I cannot understand how I missed that part of the functionality where multiple withdrawals of varying amounts can be made from a single Note. This was one of two recommendations I made in my review but it was there and somehiow I missed it during my testing for
my review.
This feature was there from day one, it's actually one of the strongest selling points of Whirlwind. You could deposit 1
BTC today and get a Note, withdraw 0.1
BTC tomorrow and the rest during the next 3 months in 0.01
BTC increments daily. There are no time limitations/ maximum number of withdrawals from a Note or anything really, so you are in full control over the process. This makes it impossible for outside observers to link your transactions beyond any doubt.
It's also very important to keep in mind that since Fast and Note outputs are identical, Fast mode is as secure as the Notes from a privacy standpoint. Even if for example you deposit 0.1
BTC using Fast mode, and withdraw everything (0.1
BTC - fee) to a single address 1 hour later, it might seem like it's easy to link the 2 transactions, but it's merely an illusion. That output could have originated from
any deposit.
The fact that you didn't know these things is definitely not your fault, I'm guessing most people in here are not yet aware. I should have done a better job explaining all these details, but everything will become clear after some more time of receiving and answering questions and concerns.
