Marseille's victory was so important against Troyes with a score of 3-1 because they again took second place in the standings from Lens this week. Maybe Marseille needs to improve their consistency so Lens can't catch their points. On the other hand, Lens' previous defeat against PSG made them unable to maintain their position and had to be willing to be pushed back by Marseille. For Troyes they have to stay in the relegation zone after this defeat and it is very difficult to get out of the zone because they need at least 3 consecutive wins, but that is also an impossible result for Troyes.
A comfortable match that Marseille managed to take advantage of with a win that allowed them to shift their position from Lens to second place. But even though they managed to shift the Lens doesn't mean they can sit comfortably. They are only 1 point apart in the table and it will be a very easy gap to roll back. It will be interesting to watch the competition for second place in the current standings.
It's not safe for Marseille to occupy its current position because of the relatively small point difference. However, if Marseille continues to win consistently, it looks like they will occupy that position until the end of the season without any interference from Lens.
But the thing that is quite a consideration is Marseille's next opponent, they will be playing Lyon away and with the good performance from Lyon now I think Marseille will again find it difficult to win. How could it not be that in the last 5 matches Lyon got 3 wins and 2 draws, Lyon will be a formidable opponent for Marseille.
