The scheme was discovered after Verizon conducted an undercover operation in which employees with its operational assurance team posed as customers, used Nomad Internet’s website to sign up for its “Verizon-backed” plan, and received the illegal SIM cards and a device to use with the cards. Verizon said the defendants attempted to conceal the deception by covering the Verizon label on the SIM cards with black markers.
