The new king (Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud) is quite intelligent and he refuses to be a slave of the United States. It was just a matter of time before the Saudis realize that they are being used as the lapdogs by the United States. As a result they are improving the cooperation between Iran and it's allies such as Syria. Also, they have helped Russia in difficult times, by agreeing to a crude oil production cut. And Russia is not exporting huge quantities of diesel to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where they are being rebranded and re-exported.
Yes it's the new crown Prince MBS that is breaking ice in whole KSA. From opening night clubs in KSA to giving women permission to drive, MBS has revolutionised the whole KSA. KSA shaking hand with Iran and Syria is considered to be biggest change in KSA foreign policy. If Europe can live in peace after WW2 then why not these Arab counties can stay in peace.
It's a matter of accepting defeat. They couldn't fight the poorest country in West Asia, Yemen after 8 years and with the full support of NATO only because Yemen had a single friend called Iran. Same with Syria, Qatar, Iraq, etc.
They had to accept defeat at some point, specially after in only 1 hour their oil production was cut in half back in September 2019 when Yemenis retaliated hard against their invaders' infrastructure.
KSA is one of biggest importer of arms but there military performance in every combat is a drastic failure and this is story of all Gulf countries. Qatar spent 200 billion usd for fifa world cup but they don't have adequate security personal for the job. Result is they imported troops from different countries like Pakistan for security.
