To be honest, I also just found out that there is the term professional gambler, after all how and what is a professional gambler like, can a gambling addict be called a professional gambler, because in my opinion an addict's name does not mean he is a professional gambler because they only play based on emotion, greed, lust that had mixed in him uncontrollably.
I agree that being addicted to gambling does not make someone a professional gambler. While there may be a few exceptions, most addicted gamblers do not possess the necessary skills and experience to be considered professionals.
There is no exemption, gambling addicts can never be a professional gambler in their current status. Professional gambler might become a gambling addict lowering their status from being a professional gambler to a gambling addict. But I don't ever think that a gambler can be a professional gambler during their gambling addiction state.
Professional gamblers on the other hand, are highly skilled and experienced in their chosen games and employ strategies and techniques to improve their odds of winning and minimize their losses. If you compare them with regular gamblers you can see a clear difference in terms of win/loss ratio. However, regardless of whether you are a professional gambler or not gambling is a high-risk activity, and there is no guarantee that you will end up making a profit and I believe that there's only few in thousands of long term gamblers that end up making profit from it.
I agree, since these professional gamblers are highly skilled and have control over thier actions, it is questionable to say that a gambling addict can be labeled as professional gambler. It is the self-discipline that makes a gambler professional anyway.
To minimize the risks, professional gambling requires a deep understanding of the game, strong discipline, and a willingness to take calculated risks.
When you called a person professional, it is obvious that the person have deep understanding of the subject. That also includes the practice of self-discipline.
