Chromebook generally has low price (AFAIK $400 or less) and intended for general usage (such as browsing, watch video and edit document), so pretty new isn't good indicator how slow or fast is your Chromium.

3) I have the Chromebook Octopus. I looked up the specs for the processor and found that I am running an Intel x86 64bit processor on this Chromebook.

There are many Chromebook laptop which can be categorized as Chromebook Octopus. But did you find out details about the processor? Did you see type of the processor, total cores or frequency speed?

That means your home directory doesn't contain any file and folder. You should download bitcoin core tarball inside the Virtual Machine.
