So I ask: where is soccer in Africa evolving?
Football in Africa and it's leagues will evolve only when corruption is reduced and Sport gets more attention in terms of allocations. Corruption has eaten deep into all sectors including the sports sector, the sporting sector has also received reduced attention. In some cases where a new government decides to pay attention to the sport sector and then disburse money for its improvement, these funds are embezzled, and nothing is done, and because it is a corrupt system, no one is held accountable.
Also, if an African team can win a world cup, it can increase the status of African football worldwide. Jose Mourinho is one manager that has been pushing for FIFA to make a rule to prevent African players from representing other countries.
“I want the world to see that Africa is equal to everybody. Africa is not behind when it comes to talent. They have the talent to win any tournament but their best players are scattered around the world playing for other countries instead of their homelands.” - Jose Mourinho
Their two Fifa World Cup titles in 1998 and 2018 were dominated by African players. The likes of Zinedene Zidane (originally from Algeria), Patrick Vieira (Senegal), Claude Makelele (DR Congo) and Marcel Desailly (Ghana) are just a few of France’s heroes of 1998.
In 2018 they were at it again when Paul Pogba (Guinea), N’golo Kante (Mali), Kylian Mbappe (Cameroon) and others were instrumental in winning their second World Cup.
