Most individuals involved in bitcoin or who happen to have taken bitcoin investments often make the mistake of leaving there coins on exchanges. That's often because they don't know any better. All they know is, they own an account with the exchange they bought from and so, its safe for them.
Remember the phrase "Not your keys, not your coins"
