Yes, Bitcoin has had a good impact on the world economy, but just the high volatility character of Bitcoin is why the governments seem not to be convinced by it.

I don't believe Bitcoin will totally eliminate the use of traditional currency because everyone on this earth will never agree to Bitcoin the way they agree to traditional currency or gold. The reason is that most people will say that Bitcoin is not a physical asset that they can touch, but they fail to realize the idea of Bitcoin, which is to take monetary power from the hands of the financial elite and put everyone who believes in it in charge of their own finances. Despite that cool reason, everyone in the world cannot key in for Bitcoin, and unless that happens, Bitcoin can't replace traditional currency. 

wouldn't displace it, but just that if there are more people into Bitcoin, it may tend to reduce the usability of the current financial system. If everyone chose privacy, then we would have more people (if not almost all) in the Bitcoin world, and since most people chose security over privacy because they feel the current financial system is the most secure of all other systems, the current system will continue to exist.
