It is not easy at all to stop gambling. I don't speak for myself, but there have been plenty of people who have tried to quit gambling and failed. And that is often accompanied by large losses on the bank roll. I think it's very difficult on your own. Cold Turkey seems to me to be the only and best way, because phasing out is a very expensive process and the decay remains present that way. Rehab could also help, but the risk of relapse is high.
If you went to rehab to treat your addiction, only a few percent of you will get back into gambling unless you are not fully healed during your rehab because that is where you don't gamble for a few months or years and they are going to give you medications as well as you will create your own hobby so that you will get rid of your addiction, but again, it isn't 100% that you've cured because there are still instances where others came back to addiction, but there are only a few of them. But again, this is the same with other addictions like alcohol, cigarettes, etc., for which you need to build your own hobby, like keeping yourself busy with other things like basketball, so that you can forget it.
