I find it a bit weird that Pep Guardiola says that sentence. I thought Guardiola will try even harder to keep him after he has played such an excellent season. Is it really about the issue that Gundogan wants two years contract and Manchester City will only give him one year? If he can preserve that level I would immediately give him a two year contract if I were the manager. Guardiola often emphasizes how much he likes Gudogan, but I think by now he says that about everyone but is still willing to let them go if the negotiations don't go in favor of the club. But again I think that Gundogan improved even further and he is so reliable during the game, he is not making mistakes and he increased his striking as well. If Gudogan leaves Manchester City and joins Barcelona then the Champions League title in 20"§ was the last one for him.

Pep said that caused by he knew that if the come of gundogan to the barcelona will be adding lots of power to the barcelona. Gundogan is now a sensational player. The fact that if pep has been also releasing the new statement he is wanna fighting against barcelona to keep gundogan in manchester city. The contract extension was already prepared by manchester city for him. I hope that if city will fulfil what gundogan wanted from the club. Barcelona sees him as a player that can push the club to be even better for the upcoming season since busquets has been leaving as free agent.
I hope he will always stay in manchester city yet gundogan has said if he is not yet deciding his future. I hope he will agree with the contract extension offered by city soon.
Pep really wants him to stay longer in the club.
Pep Guardiola is just protecting the future of the club, he is not a kind of coach that built for just two or three seasons their in charge. Pep Guardiola wants to bring in Young stars that is why he will not allow Manchester city to give Gundogan a two years contract, if he don't accept the one year, Pep Guardiola will open the door for him to exit. Gundogan has won everything for the club and captain,he has proven to be world class, every team will buy him, because his price has increased in the market after the champions league and the treble they won this year.
Manchester city has Gundogan replacement in the team already so he won't be a problem to pep Guardiola if he leaves.
Gundogan is a well-appreciated and decorated player and Pep Guardiola always speaks highly of him. As a free agent from the end of this month, any club that buys him will surely enjoy the benefits but I do not see a year contract as the issue here, it might be but I can't find a resource for that. It might be the issue of salary increase which is usual among players.

Regardless, many clubs are bidding for him now including Arteta's side, nonetheless, the two main choices are whether he to stay in Man City or move to Barcelona. Any of the options he chooses can't be a bad for the German guy.
