Maybe it's not Bitcoin that you are mining, or you are probably doing something wrong somewhere. Or are you still using just a normal laptop to do the mining?
Because miners won't be working if they aren't making money from mining, they spend resources to keep that going. You just need to figure out what you are doing wrong and fix it.
