Hamburg played very good matches throughout the year to advance to the top league, but they had to play play out when they came in third with a 1 point margin. The sad part is that they will have to play another season in Bundesliga 2 because of the 1 point difference. I'm sure Hamburg will rise next year. They didn't beat their bad luck this year, but next year a better Hamburg will welcome us.
Hamburg had the most expensive team in Bundesliga 2 last season and they did not promote with it. With the 30 million euros from investor Kühne they will certainly have one of the most expensive teams in Bundesliga 2 again. If they will not make it in the following season then they really have to ask theirself, when else. The risk is increasing that they will no longer play for promotion but will end up in the midfield.
True, Hamburg was the most costly team in Bundesliga 2 last year but they were unsuccessful in getting promoted. They are set to once again create one of the most expensive teams in the league thanks to the substantial investment of 30 million euros from investor Kühne. The cost of a team however cannot be the only factor used to determine success. The intricate process of promotion is influenced by a number of variables such as the performance of their rivals and the chemistry of the team. Although having financial support is advantageous it does not ensure automatic promotion. Given their recent failures Hamburg administration and supporters definitely feel a sense of urgency. It is crucial to keep in mind that there is a chance of not getting promoted again. Hamburg must analyse their past performances pinpoint their areas for growth and make the necessary adjustments to strengthen their chances of winning the upcoming season.
