I think Man United will definitely still hope that De Gea will continue his career with them but what really becomes an obstacle is De Gea's huge salary which Man United might be reluctant to accept. So the final decision rests with De Gea himself.
If he still wants to stay then he has to accept the contract offered by Man United (which of course there will be a wage cut). But if he still cares about his income, it means he has to leave Man United.
Will De Gea receive a salary with an offer from Manchester United? Will it be the right decision for him?
Suppose if there is an agreement with a salary cut while Manchester United still buys Andre Onana from Inter then De Gea will be shifted to become the main goalkeeper, but this is my scenario maybe if De Gea extends the contract then Onana's purchase will be cancelled.
A player certainly wants to have a salary that is quite commensurate, at first I think it's 375K per week for De Gea but with more cuts I don't know how much he will get so De Gea has to rethink his future career.
